			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The PLUS Company is proud to announce a grant of $750 from The Rotary Club of Nashua West!  The funds will be used to purchase new supplies for the organization&#8217;s recently renovated kitchen facilities.  Samantha Freeman, a graduate of The PLUS Company&#8217;s Public Speaking Class, gave a speech accepting the grant on behalf of everyone at The PLUS Company.  The Rotary Club of Nashua West provides financial assistance to local 501(c) 3 community organizations in the greater Nashua area to aid them in providing the necessary services and programs that meet the community’s needs.  The Rotary provides assistance for many reasons including:  a specific project or program, purchase of equipment or supplies, or to assist in repairs and maintenance of facilities.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has awarded The PLUS Company nearly $20,000 to enhance cooking and nutritional programs for PLUS Company clients.  The grant, consisting of funds from the Frederick W. Cox and Dorothy Thurber Cox Memorial Fund, will be used to provide kitchen renovations and purchase necessary supplies at The PLUS Company’s building at 19 Chestnut Street in Nashua, NH. </p>
<p>The upgrades will provide for increased counter and cabinet space, upgraded appliances, additional cooking equipment and tools, and various other enhancements.  “We are so grateful to the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation,” says PLUS Company Director of Adult Education, Leni Hodgins.  “This grant will allow clients with disabilities served by The PLUS Company to engage in cooking classes, as well as nutrition programs that will give them the skills they need to live healthy, independent lives.”  The renovations are expected to begin at the end of August, with the new kitchen being available for use in September.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Juana Abramo and Pam Veazie of The PLUS Company were among those honored at Gateways Community Service&#8217;s 13th Annual Direct Support Professional Awards on June 10th at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua.  The awards intended to honor the front line workers for the Greater Nashua Service System who deliver care and assistance to individuals with disabilities  in a variety of settings. </p>
<p>Nominations came from a variety of sources, including  clients, coworkers, and family members.  Each nomination was read aloud before each award was handed out.  Mark Richards nominated Juana, saying in part, &#8220;She drives me back and forth from work each day and takes us to the YMCA. I like living here.&#8221;   According to Leni Hodgins and Joe Marshall, Pam deserved this award writing, &#8220;She comes to work each day with enthusiasm, renewed energy and a smile on her face.&#8221;    The PLUS Company would like to congratulate Juana, Pam, and all the other winners of this year&#8217;s awards!</p>

<p>The grant monies will be used to expand The PLUS Company’s Education offerings in Massachusetts.  Currently, The PLUS Company offers a number of classes, including ceramics, jazzercise, and yoga, and outings to parks, baseball games, bowling, and other activities.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The PLUS Company, Lawrence was shining brightly last night, as the recipient of the 2010 Steward of the Year award from Groundwork Lawrence.  Every year, Groundwork Lawrence helps residents, youth, businesses, and community organizations to “change places and change lives”.  Groundwork’s Glow Gala, held on November 18, 2010, recognizes community organizations who sustaining the “glow” of their impact in the community.  The PLUS Company received this award due to the numerous volunteer hours put in by both staff and clients taking care of the parks in Lawrence, including raking leaves, picking up trash, and planting flowers. The PLUS Company has been volunteering in this capacity for over two years.  </p>
<p> Those attending the gala enjoyed an evening full of live music, a silent auction, raffles, and some delicious good.</p>
<p>  Thank you to Groundwork Lawrence for recognizing The PLUS Company!  We look forward to partnering with you over the years to come!</p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: small;">Carrie Poole, TD Bank Senior Vice President, joined PLUS Company staff and consumers on Friday, June 18th, to present Adult Education Director, Leni Hodgins with a generous check in support of music education programs.  The $5,000 grant is from the TD Charitable Foundation and was presented to the melodious stylings of guest performers &#8220;Jazz First&#8221;.  In addition to the Bach’s Lunches, Palace Theatre performances, private music lessons, Performing Arts Club, and weekly Music Therapy classes, the </span><strong>TD Banknorth Music Hour</strong> is held each Friday from 1-2 PM at the Progress Center.  This is one of the most popular programs held at The PLUS Company and always garners a huge crowd.   Recent performers have included actress/singer Kerry Schneider, singer/pianist Marilyn Valentine, singer/guitarist Richard King, the Harmonica Saints, the Nashua Music Exchange, recording artist Amy Conley,  Adult Puppeteer Brenda Weber, New England Voices in Harmony, saxophonist Rex Atwood, Latin guitarist Philip Kane and other local talent.   Nearly every consumer served by The PLUS Company, regardless of their level of ability, participates in at least one music program.  The PLUS Company’s Music Program is funded completely by through grants and fundraising.</p>
